In My Own Words

So I figure since there’s a major lack of actual original content here I might as well do something with what I know best — music. Here’s a nice review of Ne-Yo’s In My Own Words.

If you didn’t know, this dude co-wrote Mario’s hit “Let Me Love You”, so as much as the ladies loved that song, I’m sure they’ll feel his solo debut too. This is one of those rare R&B CD’s that is totally written from the male perspective, and actually manages to not suck.

Seems to me actually that most of the songs that this cat has written and sung are some of the exact things any guy can say to his lady (Mirror and When You’re Mad specifically for me). Only real problem I can find with this CD is that on Get Down Like That he’s talkin’ about how even though the girl he’s talkin’ to and apparently feelin’ is a dime, he won’t do anything to ruin his relationship with his current girl ((good puss anyone? :D)). But on It Just Ain’t Right he’s talkin’ about how he’s always callin’ out his ex of 3 years name when he’s bumpin’ uglies with his current girl. I mean both scenario’s are entirely plausible, but damn stick with a theme.

Production

Production wise, I like most of the beats on this album though some of the synthing on or around his voice gets kind of annoying ((not half as bad as the mass amount of.synth going on with Ray J’s album)). All in all I haven’t found any glaring holes in the production aspect of the CD.

Conclusion

So pretty much, if you’re in for some new R&B check out this CD. Ne-Yo gets down on the tracks on this CD, and can do the freaky, the lost love, the let’s make some babies. If you’ve got like $14.99 to spend or however much it costs on iTunes to get a full CD, I’d suggest you cop it. And of course if you’re cheap or just don’t believe in paying for music, you already have it. So Enjoy.
