After his debut album Get Lifted had the hit “Used to Love U” (that was by far one of the best songs in 2004) John Legend cemented himself in R&B mainstream as someone who can make great music. He found himself singing chorus’s for Jay-Z, Kanye West, and other rappers who needed a welcome change from Akon. 2 years later he released Once Again which had some great songs, but for me wasn’t the home run I had been expecting after his debut, though that was fine because it was still great music.
Now another 2 years after Once Again here comes Evolver on the back of the great single with André 3000 “Green Light” and based off that single alone its bound to be good, right?

And then he steals from it. Well it’s more like a homage I guess, but it’s cool for bloggers to shovel the shit at rappers/stars/lowly barista’s.
Anyhoo, in Kanye’s latest single/video he’s taken the the song “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger†by Daft Punk and made it his whole song basically, of course he’s flipped it a bit and all that, actually sounds pretty decent too I have to admit, much better then that shit sandwich that was “Better Then I’ve Ever Beenâ€. Now granted I didn’t really like his first CD at all, and I only listened to his second for “Crack Musicâ€, his 3rd effort might be interesting to at least listen to a few times. His first single “Can’t Tell Me Nothing†may have had a craptacular video, but it actually had some decent lyrics and a catchy background sample.
Back to this new single “Stronger†though, it might only be good ’cause I spent many a day flat on my back bored listening to Discovery before catching a glance at IRC or something. What’s of note though is that Kanye took a good chunk of the video’s scenery and ideas from Akira. Guess who Kanye is supposed to be. Personally though I would’ve had a replica made of Kaneda’s bike made, but that may just be me ’cause that thing would probably get me kicked in my teeth if I rode around on it. Video down below.
